What I Already Own answers “do I already own this?” when you scan a barcode. If that edition is in your collection, the app says so at once, with the date you added it, even with no signal at a flea market. The problem
At a flea market, a record store or a used bookshop, you pause over a record or a volume: do I have this already? Past a few hundred items, memory stops working, a spreadsheet is no use one-handed at the back of a crate, and duplicates pile up on the shelves. The same album often exists in dozens of pressings: knowing you have the title doesn't tell you that you have this edition.

What the app doesn't do
- It doesn't flag, at scan time, a different edition of the same title with another barcode: the paperback when you own the hardcover, a reissue when you own the original. Search your collection by title for that.
- A record or book without a barcode, often from before the 1980s, can't be scanned: you find it by title or, for a record, by its matrix number.
- It only knows what you've shown it: a collection that hasn't been scanned or imported protects you from nothing.

Frequently asked questions
- Will the app warn me if I own the same book in another edition?
- Not at scan time: the check is on the barcode, so on the edition. Another printing with the same ISBN is recognized; another edition with a different ISBN is not. Searching your collection by title or author answers that question.
- Do I need a signal at the flea market?
- No, to know whether you already own something: your collection is kept on the phone and refreshed each time you open the app online. The code of an item you don't own is saved and looked up once you're back online.
- Can my family check before buying me a record?
- Yes. A share link shows them your collection, kept up to date, with a search box and no account to create. Never your prices, your notes or the condition of your items.
- What about records and books without a barcode?
- You add them through search, by title, artist or author, or for a record by the number etched in the run-out groove. To find them again, search your collection.
